The Essential Balance of Work and Family
Some of us work and some of us have families. Some of us have both. Some people are working parents and they are probably the ones who find maintaining a balance of home and business life the most difficult. It’s not easy trying to spend quality time with your kids when you have to work even only a few days a week.
Within our family, we have one parent (my husband) who works one week on and one week off on a fly in fly out roster. Then there is me, a stay home mum who also is a small business owner. Both of us struggle to have an equilibrium within our working and family time, trying to incorporate time with each other and time with the kids as well.
To be honest, sometimes both of us actually have to put down whatever it is that our project is at the time and make time for each other and the kids to all spend together doing something as a family. It’s not always easy either, when we feel whatever it is we have had to put down needs our urgent attention. However, we always enjoy our time away from our work to enjoy time with the kids doing something they really enjoy.
Advice for anyone who is in a situation anything like this or anything not like this, but still has a struggle making that balance. Make sure you assign time to only spend with your family during the week or on weekends doing something with them that is just about them. Save work for the week days if possible and try not to work on weekends when you can be spending time with your family and just having a bit of leisure time.
No matter what your situation is, try to keep or get back a balance of career and family, because some of us really can’t have one without the other but have trouble doing both. Children especially need us a lot as they are growing up and our partners don’t wish to be forgotten either! It really doesn’t take any extraordinary effort to get a balance, just a bit of thought and planning and consideration of others. Think about it.
